SuperHub and I had a wonderful evening out on Monday night, celebrating 4 years of wedded bliss and 3 years of reality…7 years.
We dined on sushi, drank red wine and remembered out loud. We reminisced about life before kids, sleeping in and how much we have accomplished together over the last 13 years.
The night ended with a quick trip to HyVee for more red wine ($5.99 a bottle), blueberries for the kids for breakfast and a bag of organic cheese puffs for Cooper’s lunch the next day.
On the way out the door we texted our sitter inquiring if the kids were asleep. Nope.
So we crossed the street and headed to Walgreens to shop the As Seen on TV aisle.
I was thrilled, SuperHub did not share my enthusiasm. “Seriously, this is how we are spending our anniversary?”
Thirty minutes later, we emerged with a giant pink plush pillow, shaped like a crown that reads “Princess” and a cute holiday potholder.
It’s a short drive home. Too short.
So we put the PT Cruiser into drive, opened the sun roof and idled the entire way home. That means SuperHub never put his foot on the gas pedal. I could have run faster had I not been bent over in hysterics screaming “I’m going to pee!” We saw Christmas lights, people walking their dogs (about as fast) and noticed things you wouldn’t normally notice if you weren’t going by at 4 mph.
We didn’t hit the gas pedal until we hit the slope of the driveway.
Life goes too fast. Sometimes it’s nice to slow down and enjoy the view with your favorite person by your side. Even if it’s in the car, on a Monday night, avoiding putting your three crabby kiddos to bed.
That is my idea of a perfect night out.
