Big Mouths and Candy Houses

I started wrapping Christmas presents this weekend and against my better judgment, I allowed the kids to join me while I finished up. I showed them one of their presents to SuperHub. Big mistake.

That night we ate a nice gourmet supper (thank you McDonalds) then got to work crafting the annual Brown Family Gingerbread House.

Halfway through the icing, nibbling and creating Cooper turned to SuperHub and goes “Dad, we got you a Dr. Seuss t-shirt for Christmas!”

Me: “Cooper!”

Cooper: “What I just wanted to tell Dad that we got him a Dr. Seuss t-shirt for Christmas.”

Me: “COOPER!”

Cooper: “I JUST WANTED TO TELL HIM WHAT WE GOT HIM!”

Me: “STOP TALKING.”

Lesson learned. Again. Every year I think that maybe, just maybe, my kids have learned to keep a secret.

Nope. Noperooney.

But they can decorate a gingerbread house like it’s nobody’s business.

I wish our real house could be this fancy.

Next time use this behavior to your advantage and have fun at the same time. Have the kids help you wrap a “gift” such as a bag of old socks or a box of used Kleenex. Then be dutifully shocked and upset when the kids spill the beans, while smiling on the inside, warm with the knowledge that your true secret is safe.

Ha! Ashley, I think you are amazing for making one from scratch. I can’t wait to see photos!

Good idea KWT! Until they grow up and give their loved ones a dirty pair of skivvies for Christmas. Parenting Fail. :)

I bought a gingerbread house this weekend for next weekend! Wish me luck…
Enjoy the big mouth while you can. I found out my kiddos CAN keep a secret. It was very disheartening. I liked it better when they were crusaders for full disclosure.

Hillary – I don’t think you would want to eat this one. It’s been slobbered on by three germy little kiddos and me. :)

Jules – Good luck! I think you are right…I fully support the crusaders for full disclosure!
